A real wood veneer sconce is a natural object, and a little care keeps it looking beautiful for years. The good news: wood is forgiving, and the routine is genuinely minimal.
Everyday dusting
Wipe the surface now and then with a dry, soft cloth — a microfibre cloth is perfect. This is really all most sconces ever need.
Cleaning marks
For the occasional smudge, use a barely damp cloth and dry immediately afterwards. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents and all-purpose sprays — they can strip the natural oil finish and dull the grain.
Re-oiling over time
Our sconces are finished with natural oil. If after a few years the wood looks a little dry, you can gently apply a small amount of a natural wood oil with a soft cloth to restore the lustre. A thin coat is plenty.
Where to place it
Wood is happiest away from constant moisture and extreme heat, so steamy bathrooms and spots right above a radiator are best avoided. Stable indoor conditions keep the veneer flat and the colour even.
A note on natural variation
